Early College

Early college is an extension of the accelerated school model. In many traditional high schools senior year is not treated as a time of serious study. But in Tindley’s Early College Program eleventh and twelfth grade students take college level classes taught by adjunct faculty at Anderson University. If students receive a B or higher in the class, they are eligible to receive college credit at the universities they attend. Transferability of credits differ among schools, but Tindley graduates have earned enough college credits at Tindley to enter college at the sophomore level. College credits are provided at no extra cost to families.

Earning college credit is certainly attractive to students and to prospective colleges and universities. But what is most valuable to juniors and seniors is that they gain the experience of what they will encounter in college classes. They are given the independence and responsibility to balance their coursework with other activities. They no longer are given weekly progress reports that their parents must sign. To the extent possible, Early College recreates the college environment they will soon encounter. Not only do they gain the necessary knowledge and skills through this experience, but they mature and become personally prepared for what college will bring.

Tindley graduates come back to visit during their vacations at the universities where they attend and always share that they felt ready for what they encountered academically. Unlike for many of their new classmates, Tindley graduates find themselves prepared for what higher education demands.
